![]() ![]() This book left me with a curled lip and resentment that I wasted so many hours on it. ![]() Nasal voice and annoying laugh, and awkward sounding humour. How it got resolved just didn’t work for me either. It’s like the authors just didn’t know how to make the ups and downs in this book. ![]() Finally the drama at the end and Mal’s freak out, the things he said, and his decisions were just ridiculous. The whole premise seemed a bit awkward and unnecessary, and the drama of faking didn’t seem to be enough to base a story on. Fakers is tagged as contemporary, humor, m-m, insta-love, friends to lovers, from hate to love, small town, fake relationship, explicit-plentiful. Actually, all the female characters weren’t likeable. Paul is portrayed as overwhelmed by her beauty, and her liking being adored by him despite his “thinning hair”. She was petty and shallow, and we were supposed to like her? The only “redeeming” feature the authors gave was that she was pretty. ![]() However, this book had too many annoying things. She seems to have a loyal following that leave over inflated positive reviews so it’s always difficult to really gauge how good a book of hers is. This book would have been heading towards a typical 3 star ok read which is what I usually give Lucy Lennox stories, with their small town characters and slightly cringeworthy humour. ![]()

![]() ![]() There is no way for the majority to know that they are right and they owe it to the whole of society to listen to all arguments because it is clear that human opinion is fallible. ![]() The majority opinion is often faulted because it is biased with self-interest and personal convictions. ![]() ![]() No matter what they have to contribute, it is extremely helpful to the community. This mute portion of the community may have the wrong, right, or part of the truth in its opinion it doesn't matter according to Mill. This tyranny is even more evil, according to Mill because it is pervasive, penetrating the intricacies of life and social interaction and silencing the minority's voice. However, Mill cites this so-called victory of the people is nothing of the sort, it simply paved the way for a new type of tyranny: the tyranny of prevailing opinion. Whatever the majority opinion was would have to be the decision made by the government so the citizenry would never feel as though their best interests weren't being served. Citizens began to realize that in order to achieve their absolute liberty, government would have to begin working as an instrument, a delegate of the people's will. In the beginning, the retention of liberty was necessary to protect against political tyranny of overzealous rulers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Look up beyond the traffic lights, utility wires, and skyscrapers. As translator Adam Morris notes in his introduction to With My Dog-Eyes, the latest of her novels to be made available in English, Hilst’s father was a writer and coffee baron who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when Hilst was two years old. Born in 1930 into one of the wealthiest families in Brazil, Hilst was raised in Jaú, a small town not far from S ão Paulo. Her body of work, which includes poetry, plays, and prose, is as wide-ranging as it is defiantly avant-garde, yet, despite the accolades, her writing-and its many controversies-has only recently been introduced to Anglophone readers. By the time of her death, in 2004, Hilda Hilst had garnered fame for the whole of her oeuvre-including Brazil’s most prestigious literary prizes-and notoriety for the filthiness of her final books. ![]() ![]() ![]() Filled with all the heart, hilarity, and charm that has come to define this beloved clan, The Penderwicks in Spring is about fun and family and friends (and dogs), and what happens when you bring what’s hidden into the bright light of the spring sun. ![]() But when some unwelcome surprises make themselves known, the best-laid plans fall apart.
